News Release for May 15th, 2018

Here is a summary of the new and updated features delivered in this May 15th release.

GDPR - General Data Protection Regulation

As the General Data Protection Regulation comes into force on May 25, 2018, in Europe, Dialog Insight has updated its platform to help you comply with this new regulation. Although Dialog Insight already offers most of the required protections through its tools and consent center, a few additions were needed.

CONTACT CARD - Exporting contact data (Data portability and Right of access)

A new Export button has been added to the contact card to allow you to export all the contact's data in a downloadable file that can be sent to any contact who asks for it.See:

JOURNEY - Option not to track

A new option has been added to the configuration of a site in Journey in order to prevent the first visited page from being tracked, therefore giving visitors the time to read your cookie information banner and decide on whether to accept or refuse them. The display and creation of this banner is your entire responsibility.
Following are a few resources that can help you manage this banner:When this option is enabled, behavioral tracking only occurs after the first visited page. When the visitor continues its visit, the Journey module will track visited pages and use cookies. If you offer some cookie management options on your site, you can explicitly tell our Journey module not to track cookies for a visitor using a Javascript function, available in the tooltip shown when configuring your site on Dialog Insight.

LANDING PAGES - Warning banner on cookie usage

In order to comply with the GDPR, you must inform your website visitors on how you use cookies, and offer them the option to accept or refuse cookies, and therefore visit tracking. Dialog Insight offers a banner template that you can customize to your needs. Once enabled, this banner will show on all Dialog Insight landing pages.

CONFIGURATION - Behavioral tracking and data protection

Although this option is not required specifically by the GDPR, we have decided to add it for future uses. It's up to you to enable it or not, based on your needs.
If you do not see this option in your account, call Support to have it enabled.
Here are the main impacts of this feature:
  • Contacts will be able to unsubscribe from behavioral tracking in your communications (opens, clicks, etc.).
  • Results on messages sent will be complete, but won't be associated to contacts that have unsubscribed from behavioral tracking. Therefore, no sending history will be registered in the contact card of these untracked contacts, and no group segmentation will be possible on these history records (for example, on contacts who have received the email X).

Quarantines on delivery errors - Reminder

We have updated the quarantine feature recently to add rules to automatically clean up email addresses that cause repetitive delivery errors. This is a reminder for you to configure this option, which will help you improve your delivery and open rates. Go to:

Configuration > Contacts > Quarantines on delivery errors

You should know that the delivery error quarantine is enabled by default for all new projects, and set to put contacts on quarantine after 7 consecutive delivery errors over a period of 45 days. It's up to you to change the parameters to your company's needs.

Note that you will also see quarantines caused by repetitive delivery errors in your sending statistics, as well as in advanced group criteria.

Groups and Searches - New targeting options

New operators based on date of use

These new operators let you target contacts based on the date it is used, and not on the date the group or search is created.

These operators were already available in the advanced edit criteria for groups, and are now available in simple edit mode as well, but only when the date format is:

  • Date (yyyy-MM-dd)
  • Month and day (MM-dd)

See:

New operator IS IN

A new operator was added to let you target, at once, multiple values. Thie operator is available for all data types, when appropriate.

  • is in
  • is not in

Example - To target contacts in Quebec and Ontario:

  • Field = Province
  • Operator = is in
  • Values =  Quebec, Ontario

See:

Choice of predefined values

When a field is configured to offer a choice of predefined values through a drop-down list or radio buttons, this same choice of values is also available when a search or group is based on the related field. The availability of predefined values allows you to better target contacts since the values entered are consistent throughout all contacts, instead of being different from one contact to another since provided in a free form text box.

For example, if you want to target male contacts, you will use the Sex field. If you didn't provide a choice of values, the values for this field can be quite diversified - Man, Male, M, Boy, etc. - and that's without counting typing errors and various abbreviations! It is therefore recommended to set a drop-down list or radio buttons offering a limited list of possible values for this field - Man, Woman, for example. This approach will provide more accurate results in your contact searches and groups.

Marketing auto - Configuration parameters always visible

You can now view the configuration parameters of each step of a scenario, even when the scenario is active. No need to disable the scenario to view its parameters.

To see how a step was configured, just double-click on the step.

Know however that no changes can be made when the scenario is active; you'll need to disable it to edit it.

Journey - Updated and more informative visual

We have somewhat changed the Journey's configuration page - small changes that will make a big difference!

  • Copied - An indication that you have properly copied the code in the Clipboard. All is left to do is paste it on your webpages.
  • Status - See the global status of your website:

indicates that the code has been installed and that visits have been tracked.

indicates an error, either the code was not integrated well, or visits haven't been tracked yet.

Interface - Improved navigation between elements

A new pager has been added on a lot of pages to make it easier, and quicker, to view elements one after the other, without the need to go back to the list page each time to select a new element. The pager is most often placed on the top right of the page, unless this is not possible. You can now see a pager for all these elements:

  • Messages and message templates
  • SMS
  • Mobile and web notifications
  • Multi-segment and A/B Split campaigns
  • Imports and exports
  • Groups
  • Marketing automation
  • Sending results
  • Forms (Workflows)
  • Operational links
  • Schemas et relational tables

INTERFACE - Global search and tags

In order to quickly find a message, a campaign, a form, a landing page, or any other element in a project, we have added a global search tool, as well as a tag system. The global search tool searches among all the names, and in tags, if you have defined some. So you'll need to set tags if you want to use them in your search.
