To reach a different audience, you could create a Web Push notification that displays on your website. This notification can be displayed to leads who are not in your contact list (we call them "anonymous"). The notification can also target contacts according to specific criteria, such as their profile characteristics or their purchase behavior. In this article, we will see how to create the notification and its content, test it and program the sending.
Access path: Communication → Push Notifications |
Requirements
- Configure the Web Push notifications
- Create a communication type which uses the Web Push channel:
Step 1: Create the Web Push
Follow Communications → Push Notifications to get on the page listing the notifications. Click Create a Push notification in the upper right. In the pop-up window that appears:
- Give an administrative name to the notification (the recipients won't see this name).
- Choose the Web Push option.
- Select a communication type which authorizes Web Push.
- Indicate the website to use (Push Destination)
Warning! If you have a CDP structure, make sure to create the notification in the right project. Generally, it's in the unified project that you will create notifications, since it's the project that contains unified contact profiles and the data you need for targeting. In some cases, you could create a notification in a secondary project. For example, for a transaction confirmation, you could create the notification in the secondary project that contains transaction data. |
Step 2: Configure the Notification
In the left panel, indicate the notification type:
Generic notification - To create a notification, without personalization, that can be sent to all subscribers.
Personalized notification - To create a personalized notification by adding data from contact profiles. This type of notification can only be sent to subscribers who are known to be contacts in your database.
Also, in the left panel, select the languages for the notification:
Step 3: Create the Content
In the right zone, create the notification content:
- Title: Add a title which will appear on the notification. The title is automatically cut after 120 characters.
- Content: Enter the text of the notification. The goal is to direct subscribers back to your website, so there is no need to use a long message. It is more important to raise their interest and have them click. The content is cut after 240 characters, but displays it entirely on mouse hover. Most browsers have a character limit between 41 and 120 for the web notifications. This means you should keep it short and simple.
- Link: URL of the page where you want to redirect recipients when they click the notification.
- Icon: The logo of your company will display by default, but you can change it for another logo. This image must be square, be in JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, ICO, CUR or BMP format, have a minimum size of 192px x 192px.
- Image: You can also add a bigger image at the bottom of the notification. This image only displays in Chrome for now, and must have a minimum width of 330px and height of 240px.
You could also add an action (a button):
Actions are only supported on Chrome. If you use actions, it is strongly recommended to publish (step 5) the notification by restricting it to Chrome.
Step 4: Validate and Test
If there are warnings or errors to correct, you will see them under the Validation section on the left. You must fix the errors before testing.
In the Test interface, you have a preview for each browser.
- In the Languages section, select the language in which to view the preview.
- Under Preview with a contact, select the contact to use for your preview and see how the personalized elements show, if you have added some.
- Choose Desktop or Mobile to see the proper preview.
- Test your notification:
- Test now - Receive a test in the browser of your current Dialog Insight session, without having to install any scripts or files on your website.
- Send - Send a test in the browser of a contact who has subscribed to the notifications of the website, normally a test contact (yourself or a colleague). Select the view you want to use in the Preview with a contact section. You will receive the notification as that contact would, including the personalization.
Step 5: Program the Sending
In the Send interface, program the publishing of the notification:
Recipients
Known subscribers
These are subscribers who have been identified as contacts in your database.
Since they are contacts, you need to choose which ones:
- All - sent to all subscribed contacts
- One or more groups - sent only to subscribed contacts that are part of the selected group(s)
Unknown subscribers
These are subscribers that could not be identified and for whom you have no personal information.
- All - sent to all subscribed contacts
- One or more groups - sent only to subscribed contacts that are part of the selected group(s)
Click the Calculate button to see the number of targeted contacts, as well as the number of subscriptions by browser.
* Note that one subscriber can show up in more than one category - a person can have subscribed to notifications through both Chrome AND Firefox, and also be a contact in the Dialog Insight platform.
Scheduling
Specify when to send the notification:
- Now
- At this time (click Modify to have access to this window)
You can specify the date, time, and even the timezone.
When you are ready, click Prepare sending. Confirm by clicking Confirm and prepare sending. The approval window will show the number of targeted contacts and subscribers. Finally, to send the notification, click Approve.
Results
The notification will be displayed to the recipients even if they are not on your website. The notification will be displayed on the browser provided that the browser is open.
You can consult the programmed push notifications in the calendar.
