Setting Up the SMS Channel

The SMS module lets your create and send SMS to your contacts, either individually or in batch. By combining both email and SMS messages, your contacts have the possibility of reading your communications where and when they want, and this at very little extra cost.

To activate the SMS channel, please contact your account manager or send a ticket to the Support. We will accompany you throught the configuration and help you be all set to start sending SMS. This article presents the different elements that DI will set up for you. These elements are only for example purposes and could be different depending on your needs.

Phone Number Purchase

We will proceed to buy a phone number you will use to send SMS. The available options will be different depending on your country.
In Canada, you have the choice between a short or a long number. The short number is preferable for commercial high volume sendings. A long number can be flagged as spam and blocked by the SMS relay systems. However, a short number is more expensive.

We will then configure the phone number with you and connect a phone number field in your project to indicate which number use to send an SMS for each contact in the project. You will then have to import your contacts' phone number in the project. 

Please plan a monthly budget for SMS according to your volume. Billing is calculated with the number of fragments sent.

Unsubscribing Mechanism

We will set up an unsubscribing mechanism which works with the key word "STOP". The system then sends a confirmation SMS to the contact who made the request. It is possible to customize this mechanism on demand. 

Other Keywords Mechanism

You could also have other mechanisms that work with keywords and trigger SMS with different confirmation messages. Depending on the keyword, you could choose a custom message.
