Generating a plain-text version

An email communication is sent in two parts: an HTML part and a plain-text part. Depending on the email application or configuration used by your recipients, the HTML part may not be displayed. Anti-spam software assigns a negative score when no plain-text version is recognized.

Benefits of the plain-text version
  • Improves deliverability
  • Makes the email more accessible (for screen readers)
  • Serves as an alternative for recipients with devices that do not support HTML

Before generating the plain-text version, the email must be final. If you make changes to the email, you must regenerate the plain-text version. It is recommended that content be added to the ALT text of the images (descriptive text to substitute an image when it cannot be displayed).

To generate a plain-text version, select Plain-text:

Option 1: Generate default version
The default version presents a link to the web version to see the full message in the browser. We recommend its use when the HTML version contains a lot of personalization and dynamic contents (conditions). You can edit the version to adapt it to your needs.   Don't forget to save your changes and to regenerate the plain-text version if you make changes to the HTML version.

Option 2: Generate from HTML
When you have a lot of personalization and conditions, this option is not recommended. The text content is displayed directly in the email, which is interesting when the HTML is easy to read.

Don't forget to save your changes and to regenerate the plain-text version if you make changes in the HTML version.
