Activating/Deactivating a Contact

In the contact's profile, you can manage manually the sending status for that contact. You could need to deactivate a contact in some cases, such as a verbal or written request from the contact. 

To receive communications, the contact must respect the following conditions:

To manage contacts' consents, it is recommended to use a consent centre to add filters to the sendings.


Activate/Deactivate a Contact

To activate or deactivate a contact manually, click on the button at the upper right of the contact's profile:

If the contact is deactivated, you will see the Activate option instead. When the contact is deactivated, communication channels will all display a red X. Before reactivating a contact, make sure you really have the authorization. Was there a reason for the deactivation (for example, a verbal or written request from the contact)?

If you have a CDP structure, you have to deactivate the contact in the unified project AND in each source project where the contact exists.

You can consult details on the sending status for the contact looking in these two places:

The contact could be deactivated with one of these methods: 

  • Opt-out using an opt-out link in a message
  • Manual deactivation by a user in the project
  • Import of a new list
  • Request with web service (API) after a spam report
  • Update with a form
